Dallas Cowboys Release Concerning Dak Prescott Injury Update Out Of Nowhere At Minicamp
This article was originally published on Total Pro Sports.

Dallas Cowboys minicamp opened Tuesday, and Dak Prescott wasn’t fully under center.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced that Prescott would be limited in team drills due to a sore knee. He was quick to downplay it, though, telling reporters it’s nothing to worry about.
“Brian Schottenheimer said Dak Prescott will be limited in team drills because of a sore knee. He said it’s nothing to be concerned about,” ESPN’s Todd Archer reported.

Prescott wasn’t the only one held back. Starting safety Malik Hooker and safety Jalen Thompson were also limited in practice, and wide receiver George Pickens sat out team work entirely.
Cowboys Fans Are Already Nervous About Dak Prescott

Cowboys fans have seen this before, and they’re not taking the news well. The reaction on social media was swift and predictable.
“That every other year Dak curse in full effect,” one said.

The concern isn’t hard to understand. Dallas has now missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the early 2000s. Prescott dealt with a hand scare during the 2025 season as well, which did little to settle the fanbase’s nerves heading into this year.
The Cowboys rebuilt their roster this offseason with an eye on ending that drought. Jerry Jones added edge rusher Rashan Gary, signed safety Jalen Thompson, and used first-round picks on safety Caleb Downs and defensive end Malachi Lawrence. The defense, which was historically bad in 2025, looks significantly improved on paper.
But none of that matters if Dak Prescott can’t stay healthy.
What Dak Prescott Brings to the Table in 2026

Despite the Cowboys’ back-to-back losing seasons, Prescott has continued to put up numbers. In 2025, he played all 17 games, led the league in completions, and finished with 4,552 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions. The problem wasn’t Prescott — it was a defense that gave up points at a historic rate.
Prescott came into the offseason dealing with a high-profile personal situation after his engagement ended, but Schottenheimer said earlier this year that his quarterback is in a good mental space heading into the season.
With the NFC East wide open in 2026, the Cowboys genuinely have a shot at reclaiming the division — but only if Prescott stays healthy and the defense holds up its end of the bargain.
For now, the sore knee is being treated as minor. But in Dallas, even minor injury news in June sets off alarm bells.
