A former NFL quarterback announced his official retirement from the league on Tuesday. Two years since its last experience in the league, the player decided to call it a career following brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins.

Chris Streveler announced his retirement with a video statement on Instagram.

“I love football, but today is my last day as a football player,” Streveler said.

“This game has given me opportunities beyond my wildest dreams. This game has challenged me with obstacles I thought I’d never overcome. This game has forged lifelong bonds with people I would have never met otherwise. I’ve been playing this game since I was eight years old. Today, I’m 31.”

After playing in Minnesota (where he played wide receiver) and South Dakota in college, Streveler was ignored by the NFL in the 2017 draft. He played four seasons for the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers, winning a Grey Cup in 2019.

He played with the Cardinals and the Jets (who are still trying to find their franchise QB) in the NFL. Streveler played nine games in the league, including one start in 2022. He went 27 of 40 for 231 yards and a touchdown for the Jets.

Streveler signed with the Ravens’ practice squad after the Cardinals waived him in 2021. He then joined the Dolphins in early 2022. The Jets then added him to the roster later that year.
