Raise your hand if you saw Drew Lock outplaying Drake Maye in the opening season game. Nobody could’ve seen that coming because Lock was never supposed to see the field.

That is because Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold suffered a frightening hip injury. New England Patriots defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones tackled him from behind, and Darnold was unable to get right back up.

Consequently, Jones sacked the quarterback from behind and drove him with immense force directly into the turf. Darnold’s right leg absorbed a massive, highly awkward impact as his hip twisted violently underneath.

While he was eventually able to walk off the field, he would go straight to the locker room. His night was over.

Drew Lock Took Advantage of His Opportunity

Backup quarterback Drew Lock orchestrated a gritty fourth-quarter comeback victory after Sam Darnold went down with a sudden hip injury.

Initially, Lock struggled to find his rhythm, completely stalling the Seattle offense throughout the first half. However, he finally found himself when he tossed an incredible 45-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

That completion tied the game at 10-10 and shifted the entire momentum. Lock completed a highly efficient 16 out of 22 passing attempts for 187 yards and that one touchdown.

Was Lock Chirping At Drake Maye?

Drew Lock had just finished a relief night that ended 13-10, and cameras stayed on the field as Drake Maye headed off after three fourth-quarter interceptions.

According to a widely shared angle, Lock was seemingly looking for Maye after the game, but noticed that he had already run off to the locker room. In the clip, Drew Lock removes his helmet, says something, then turns around and says, “B-tch a–” as he dapped up a Patriots player.

In the meantime, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold underwent a crucial morning MRI on his right hip. The MRI officially ruled out any severe bone fractures or breaks in the hip.

He is still not out of the woods yet. His absence would lead to Drew Lock getting more playing time.
