Atlanta police have released the 911 audio related to the killing of Nateal Campbell, mother of NFL veteran Calais Campbell.

The recording, shared below, captures a relative warning dispatchers about Ciarre Campbell, Calais’ brother, describing him as mentally ill and acting erratically.

They were initially keen on a welfare check and couldn’t have imagined what police would find.

The caller revealed that Ciarre was driving their mother’s car, something they said was “highly unusual.” They also noted surveillance footage didn’t match his claims about her whereabouts, per the audio, which has been released by TMZ.

Police responded to the Buckhead townhouse on June 30 for a welfare check. Inside, they found 71‑year‑old Nateal dead. They arrested him at the scene and later charged him with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.

Arrest warrants allege her throat was cut.

Court records show Ciarre waived his first appearance on July 2. He remains held at Fulton County Jail. The case has been classified as a bias incident but not a crime, given the mental health concerns raised.

For Calais Campbell, the loss is devastating. A six‑time Pro Bowler, he’s played for Arizona, Jacksonville, and Atlanta, and won the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2019 for his philanthropy.

Campbell is preparing for his 17th season in the NFL while mourning his mother and facing the reality that his brother now awaits trial.

The 39-year-old defensive lineman joined the Ravens in May.

He signed a one-year deal worth $5.5 million with the team, guaranteeing him $4.75 million, plus a $2 million bonus.
