The timeline leading to Jalen Hurts being ruled out for the remainder of the Eagles season is drawing intense scrutiny following what’s considered a daming report.

Hurts suffered a calf injury during Philadelphia’s game against the Los Angeles Rams on October 4. However, he continued practicing before seeking treatment several days later.

According to the team’s official medical timeline, the quarterback requested treatment on October 8 after being cleated during the Rams game. He practiced fully before and after that visit.

The situation changed after Philadelphia arrived in London for its matchup against Jacksonville.

This is the publicly known Jalen Hurts timeline:

• The team says he was cleated in the calf vs. the Rams in Week 4 but didn’t ask for treatment until a few days later, practicing in full in between.

• After the Eagles flew to London, an ultrasound found a superficial blood clot in his calf. Doctors still cleared him to play.

• However, the night before the game, he spent time in the hospital and was told not to sleep because it was a risk. He played the full game without much sleep.

• He then took the roughly 7-8 hour flight from London back to Philly and started practicing in full that week. Speaking to the media, Hurts called it a “very unique experience” but didn’t want to get into details.

• A follow-up ultrasound then showed the clot had moved, and he was ruled out for Week 6. • Further testing has now diagnosed him with deep vein thrombosis and blood clots in both lungs. He’s on blood thinners and expected to miss the rest of the season.

An ultrasound on October 10 revealed a superficial blood clot in Hurts’ calf. Doctors in London reviewed the results and determined he could safely play, recommending another scan within 72 hours.

Hurts then started against the Jaguars on October 11, despite reportedly spending much of the previous night in the hospital and being told not to sleep. He later described the trip as “a very unique experience to say the least.”

Further Testing Revealed A More Serious Medical Condition

Hurts then flew back to Philly, where he continued practicing. But a follow-up ultrasound on October 14 showed movement in the clot. This led the Eagles to rule him out for Week 6.

Another evaluation revealed deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. This resulted in him being shut down for the remainder of 2026. The team has indicated that Hurts is stable and will remain around the team, but has been placed on blood thinners and will not participate in football activities.

The timeline prompted angry reactions from Eagles fans.

“Not only do the Eagles need to fire their medical staff, they got to be arrested and have their medical licenses revoked,” one suggested.

“The Eagles team doctor that cleared Jalen Hurts,” another comment reads as the caption to a photo of Dr. Elmer Hartman from Family Guy.

“Never wanna hear s**t about my goat again,” another fan wrote.

The Eagles’ medical department certainly hasn’t covered itself in glory here. Still, accusations of malpractice remain unfounded until more is known.
