Derek Carr made headlines in recent hours, and it wasn’t because of his still unclear desire to return to the NFL. The veteran quarterback has focused on different ventures since retiring from the league ahead of the 2025 campaign due to an uncomfortable shoulder injury.
The former Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints quarterback has remained active in the “Home Grown with David & Derek Carr” show, a podcast he co-hosts with his brother.
The show became a hot topic on NFL Twitter on Sunday after fans spotted an eerie similarity between the show’s outro and the infamous “We Are Charlie Kirk” song that went viral after the conservative podcaster was assassinated in September 2025.
A user called him out, claiming he used an AI version of the widely mocked Kirk song and dubbing the move “pathetic.”

Fans Defend Derek Carr After Wild Charlie Kirk Claim

The tweet racked up over 1.7 million views since Sunday. As popular as it got, many fans rejected the notion that Carr had purposely cloned the Kirk song.
“Bruh. You are 5 years behind🤣 a fan made that song YEARS ago,” one said.

“Y’all nights call a trying AI while not knowing s**t fr,” another wrote.
“Somebody else made that song and video a while ago,” another said.
“Y’all aren’t familiar with ‘We are Derek Carr’ ???? Even as a Niners fan I know about 😂 that song came out like 4 years before Charlie Kirk died lmfaooo,” a fourth wrote.
“I really had no idea Kirk was as popular as he was,” someone said.
“That’s not AI, he actually sang that himself,” another fan claimed.
Five years ago, Carr was still in the NFL. Whoever created the song might have made it as a celebration of his on-field performances, and it stuck when the brothers needed an outro for the show.
An Instagram video showed Derek and David reacting to a highlight reel that included the song, and neither picked up the reference.
Then again, it would be hard to imagine Carr jumping on the Charlie Kirk meme train so openly.
