The Kansas City Chiefs have dominated the AFC West since Patrick Mahomes became a starter and never looked back. An abnormal 2025 season saw them win just six games while dealing with multiple injuries and an unusual lack of consistency.

They started this season with a 5-0 record, reminding fans that they aren’t done just yet. However, the next two games after that perfect start raised eyebrows. The Seattle Seahawks dominated them in Week 7, limiting them to just three points.

Week 8 looked different, though. They nearly pulled off a game-winning score late against the Denver Broncos, but a false start penalty ruined their plans. The back-to-back losses haven’t gone unnoticed, and oddsmakers have paid close attention.

Following the Broncos game, Denver replaced the Chiefs as the odds-on favorites to win the AFC West for the first time this season. Sean Payton’s team’s odds sit at -130 at the time of writing. Meanwhile, the Chiefs come in at +115.

The Raiders, however, come third at +2500, while the winless Chargers’ odds sit at +15000. The Broncos went all the way to the AFC Championship Game last season, yet oddsmakers had the Chiefs as the better bet to win the division this campaign.

Eight weeks into the season, Payton and Co. have made it clear they won’t just sit and watch Andy Reid’s team reclaim the throne.
