The Kansas City Chiefs have shared a proper update on their plan to move part of the organization from Arrowhead Stadium to Kansas. The team announced that Kansas City-based engineering and construction company Burns & McDonnell will oversee the project. Basically, the company will help develop the Chiefs’ new headquarters and practice facility in Olathe.

This is the biggest update since the Chiefs released new details about the overall $4.5 billion project. The plan includes a new team headquarters in Olathe and a new stadium in Wyandotte County. The Chiefs hope to have both facilities ready before the start of the 2031 NFL season.

The new headquarters will cover about 155 acres. It will be located near College Boulevard and Ridgeview Road in Olathe.

The site will include a $300 million football operations center. It will also feature a mixed-use development with businesses, restaurants, shops, and other attractions nearby.

Chiefs Matt Kenny said the organization chose Burns & McDonnell for its local ties and experience with large projects.

“We are extremely excited to have Burns & McDonnell join our project team as owner’s representative for our new practice facility and headquarters that we will be building in Olathe,” Kenny said.

“As a local, employee-owned firm with a track record of project success around the world, we know they have the right mix of local knowledge as well as global experience to help us navigate the upcoming design and construction phases of a truly unique year-round home for our football team and staff.”

According to the Chiefs, Burns & McDonnell will work with CAA ICON to oversee development of the football and business operations facilities. The companies will coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants through planning and construction. They will also help manage budgets, schedules, and project risks.

Burns & McDonnell Senior VP and Buildings Market GM Jon Wright called the partnership an important aspect for the region.

“We are honored to partner with the Kansas City Chiefs on this transformational project,” Wright said. “The Chiefs have had an extraordinary impact on our region for generations, and this investment represents an exciting new chapter for the organization and the Kansas City community.”

The Chiefs first announced plans in December 2025 to relocate from Missouri to a new stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas.

Chiefs President Mark Donovan said the development will shape the franchise for years to come.

“Since Lamar Hunt relocated the team from Dallas to Kansas City in 1963, the franchise has continued to drive significant economic, cultural, and community impact throughout Chiefs Kingdom,” Donovan said. “This once-in-a-generation project, which is really four projects in one, offers a truly transformational impact for the State of Kansas and the entire Kansas City region.”

The Chiefs are now moving into the next stage of the project. As they begin building a new headquarters and stadium, with plans to have everything ready before the 2031 NFL season.
