Minnesota Vikings Get Major Update On Potential Saquon Barkley, Jonathan Taylor Trades

The Minnesota Vikings might have to look elsewhere for help at running back before the trade deadline hits.
Even with a hot 6-0 start, the team has real questions in the backfield after Aaron Jones Sr. went down with an injury. But fans hoping for a blockbuster trade for a superstar like Jonathan Taylor or Saquon Barkley probably need to dial back their hopes.
Tom Pelissero dropped an update on Thursday that won’t make Vikings fans too happy. The NFL insider doesn’t see Minnesota swinging for the fences to land an elite back.
“I wouldn’t sit there and hold my breath for Saquon [or] Jonathan Taylor … those top end items,” Pelissero said.
Minnesota could still look around for depth, but pulling off a trade for either of those big names feels pretty unlikely. On top of that, both guys carry question marks that would make any trade tricky to take place.
Saquon Barkley’s Injuries And Taylor’s Price Complicate Trade Hopes

Barkley presents a difficult option for Minnesota because of his injury problems this season. The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled to a 2-5 record, which could make them sellers before the deadline. However, Barkley’s health could make it harder for the Vikings to justify a trade.
Philadelphia signed Barkley before the 2024 season, and he helped the team win the Super Bowl. He also earned Offensive Player of the Year honors after rushing for more than 2,000 yards.

His production dropped last season after a heavy workload during the Eagles’ championship run. Philadelphia’s offensive line also lost some of its dominance.
This season, Barkley has dealt with a stinger and a hamstring injury. He missed two games with the hamstring problem before returning against the Dallas Cowboys last week. However, he aggravated the issue and also suffered a back injury.
Minnesota may not want to give up a Day 2 draft pick for a player who could struggle to stay healthy.
Taylor offers a more appealing option, but the Indianapolis Colts may demand too much in return. Judd Zulgad of SKOR North argued that Minnesota should avoid giving up a first-round pick. He suggested the Vikings should consider a second-round pick plus another asset instead.
The Colts could push for a bigger return. Taylor remains one of their best players, and Indianapolis may want to maximize his value before moving a three-time Pro Bowler.
The Colts have already traded guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for third- and fifth-round picks. They also sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a fourth-round selection.
With the trade deadline approaching, Minnesota must decide whether either deal makes sense.
