Caleb Williams turned a dead pocket into a highlight before Chicago even settled into its home opener. On third-and-12 from the Minnesota 38, he bounced left, got cut off, then spun back toward the right sideline. Dallas Turner dove first and missed. Levi Drake Rodriguez, wearing No. 50, dove next and found nothing but grass.
The gain was only six yards. Cairo Santos still drilled the 50-yarder that tied the game at 3-3. The clip did more damage than the play itself, because Williams stopped on a dime and left a 300-pound lineman on the ground.

Dave from Bears Fan TV posted the angle with a simple caption, showing a painful dive at the legs. Williams never broke stride until Rodriguez committed. Then he planted and kept the ball.
Williams left two Vikings defenders lying on the ground. He traveled 19 yards behind the line while looping back, high-stepped Turner, then slammed the brakes on Rodriguez. Andrew Van Ginkel finally shoved him out at the Minnesota 32. It was ugly football that still moved the sticks enough for three points.
This is the same escape act Chicago saw against the Rams in January, only without the throw at the end. Last May he was already launching 70-yard balls off his back foot in shorts. On Sunday, he needed the legs more than the arm on that first drive.

Week 1 in Carolina made him look like a finished product in Ben Johnson’s offense. He went 21-of-29 for 269 yards, two passing scores, and two rushing touchdowns in a 59-37 win. MVP odds jumped from +1200 to +600 after that night. Minnesota was always going to be a different test. Brian Flores blitzed him on most early dropbacks, and the first half stayed stuck in field-goal range.
The lighter frame from camp showed up on that loop. Williams dropped 10 to 15 pounds this summer so he could move better in this scheme.
