New York Jets Hit With Unfortunate Minkah Fitzpatrick Injury Update

Week 1 of NFL games came and went. However, the injuries to some notable players have already been felt by multiple teams. Now, we can add New York Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to that growing list. 

Not much was expected from the Jets in their opener. But they were against the rebuilding Tennessee Titans. Of course, many expected them to win – and they did.

They bested the Titans, 23-10. Unfortunately, Fitzpatrick went down during the game.

Minkah Fitzpatrick Expected To Miss Significant Time

Fitzpatrick suffered a groin injury during the first quarter against the Titans. Initially, the injury looked bad from an onlooker’s perspective. 

That was unfortunate happenstance for a team like the Jets, who are aiming to improve from their abysmal 3-14 record in 2025. Now, the severity of the injury to their star safety has been revealed. Sadly, he’ll miss time on the field.

“Sources: #Jets S Minkah Fitzpatrick, who suffered a groin injury during Sunday’s win over the Titans, is expected to miss 2–3 weeks. Fitzpatrick was a major addition to the defense this offseason but played just six snaps on Sunday,” NFL Insider Jordan Schultz wrote on X.

The addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick was supposed to be a sigh of relief for the struggling Jets. The team was ranked 31st last season in opponent points per game. They just couldn’t defend. 

Adding a three-time First-team All-Pro would instantly improve their defense. For the first time in a while, there was hope for the team in 2026.

But after receiving the bad news, the Jets would need to survive the next few weeks without their top safety. If the timeline is correct, the earliest that the 29-year-old could return would be the Jets’ trip to Chicago to face the Bears.

Injuries are piling up after Week 1, not just for the Jets. Let’s hope there won’t be more in the upcoming weeks.
