Atlanta Falcons defensive end James Pearce won’t be touching the field for quite some time.
The Atlanta Falcons edge rusher was arrested for domestic violence that involved his ex-girlfriend, WNBA player Rickea Jackson. According to police reports and court filings, the arrest followed a violent dispute after the couple’s three-year relationship ended.
Jackson noticed Pearce following her in a Lamborghini SUV. As she attempted to drive to a nearby police station for safety, Pearce allegedly rammed the rear of her car. When police arrived, Pearce refused orders to get on the ground, got back into his SUV, and sped away.
He reportedly intentionally struck an officer’s leg with his vehicle in the process. James Pearce led officers on a five-minute car chase, crashed his SUV, and tried to flee on foot before being tackled.
Now he is going to pay for his actions.

The Atlanta Falcons suffered a devastating blow to their defensive front ahead of the upcoming regular season campaign. Highly anticipated pass rusher James Pearce received a massive disciplinary suspension.
The NFL has suspended the young pass rusher for the first eight regular-season games of the upcoming campaign without pay.
Furthermore, the league determined that the circumstances violated its personal conduct policy. Meanwhile, official statements confirmed that the player remains eligible to participate in all preseason activities and games before the ban takes effect at the end of August.
Consequently, the absence of James Pearce for the opening portion of the regular season creates an immediate challenge for the Falcons’ defensive line depth.

Despite the legal diversion program, the NFL handed down an eight-game, no-pay suspension to James Pearce Jr. Pearce is allowed to play in preseason games, but his regular-season suspension begins in Week 1, making him eligible to return in Week 9.
During his 2025 rookie season, he put together a dominant, record-setting performance on the field for the Atlanta Falcons. Pearce quickly established himself as a premier young pass rusher. There was a reason why the team traded back into the first round to snag him.
James Pearce appeared in all 17 regular-season games and spearheaded a revitalized Atlanta defensive line. He led all NFL rookies with 10.5 sacks, breaking the Falcons’ franchise rookie record. Pearce also generated 45 total pressures, including 16 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for loss.
It’s unfortunate that his behavior will keep him off the field.
