Cam Skattebo scored the first touchdown of Sunday night. He walked in from three yards against the Dallas Cowboys. Then he cartwheeled and launched his signature backflip in the end zone.

He landed it. Giants fans still lost their minds.

This was his first regular-season snap since a gruesome Week 8 injury last year. That night in Philadelphia ended with an open tibia fracture, a ruptured deltoid ligament, and a dislocated right ankle. He still flipped.

Viewers did not celebrate with him.

“Every Giants fan spent all summer protecting that knee like fine china and Cam just launched the whole cabinet down the stairs,” one fan wrote.

“Smart after just blowing out your ankle,” another posted.

“If I was a Giants fan I’d be panicking every time this dude scores. He’s got talent coming out of ears, but he’s dumb as a rock,” a third said.

“Ankle holding on for dear life.. pls stop Skat,” another begged.

He finished with 81 yards on 18 carries and that one score. New York beat Dallas 28-20. The production was fine. The landing still made people cover their eyes.

He had previewed the stunt for a month.

“I’ve been saying it for about a month now ‘I’m going to do a backflip when I score my first touchdown,’” he said.

He later called the cartwheel “crappy” and admitted he lost his balance.

Cam Skattebo Already Heard It From Harbaugh

John Harbaugh had already scolded the flip once this summer.

Cam Skattebo tried the same move at Fanatics Fest in July. He slipped on the stage and twisted the repaired right leg. He popped up screaming. The clip still terrified the building.

“Dude, at least stick it,” Harbaugh said then. “I mean, land the thing if you’re going to do it.”

Skattebo later called the offseason attempt dumb.

“Obviously I do some dumb things here and there, but I learn from it,” he said in camp. “Will I go do that backflip again? Probably not.”

Sunday answered that question.
