New England Patriots fans received bad news from a beloved columnist. As one of the best teams in NFL history, the Patriots have plenty of people covering them.
On Tuesday, however, one of the people covering them became the news. Christopher Gasper, a sports columnist and radio host, announced that he’s battling cancer.
The Boston Globe and 98.5 The Sports Hub talent took to Instagram to share the dark news. He will undergo surgery.
“Some personal news: You won’t be reading, seeing, or hearing me for a bit. Before last Patriots season, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My goal was to cover the full season. I did that, and then re-weighed treatment plans. Recent scans showed additional cancerous areas. Time for surgery,” Gasper wrote.
“My prognosis is encouraging, and, hopefully, I’ll see you on the flip side. Then you can resume telling me how misguided you feel I am in the views I express about sports in the @bostonglobe, on @985thesportshub, and @nbcsboston. I am really looking forward to that normalcy. I want to sincerely thank my amazing family, friends, and work colleagues for their heartfelt support. It means the world to me. I also want to thank the incredible doctors at Boston Medical Center and MGH who have guided me through this to this point and respected my wishes while steadfastly protecting my long-term health outlook.”

This is really sad, but Gasper has a lot of people rooting for him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him.
