Crissy Froyd never thought that 2026 would have her making major headlines across the nation. The ongoing controversy involving the former reporter and veteran football insider Dianna Russini has sparked heated debate across social media.
Froyd says she was among the first to know about the affair involving Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini. Crissy Froyd was fired by USA Today Sports on April 16, 2026, due to highly critical, unverified social media posts she directed at Russini.
She has recently drawn major attention in sports journalism after claiming that at least six female reporters told her they had sexual relationships with NFL staff members while covering their teams.
Now she is speaking out about why she was canned.
Crissy Froyd Says She Was Fired as Retaliation

Over a month after she was fired from her freelance position at USA Today, sports journalist Crissy Froyd has spoken out about her termination. She exclusively told the Daily Mail she is facing professional retaliation for outing female reporters being rewarded with information due to having sex with NFL staff.
Froyd revealed that her freelance role with the sports website, FanSided, was terminated on Tuesday, June 2.
‘The reason [the role was ended] is because of the op-ed that I did,’ she claimed. ‘The reason is that I spoke out.’
Crissy Froyd previously alleged that ‘some female sports reporters, rumored to include some of the most prominent names in the business, trade sex for stories.’ Even on X, she casually brought up Sean Payton and Nick Caserio.
Her article with the Daily Mail came weeks after her professional relationship with USA Today was also ended due to remarks made on X.
After Russini left her job, Froyd posted on X: ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. We know who you really are and what you’ve been up to for years. It does so much detriment to women in sports who have done things the right way.’
Crissy Froyd claims that she has been retaliated against by FanSided for speaking out about the ‘taint of corruption’ afflicting NFL sports reporting.
‘At the very least, Russini and Vrabel’s relationship creates the perception of a quid pro quo culture that pressures female journalists to trade sexual relationships with powerful male NFL employees in return for access and advancement,’ Froyd wrote in the Daily Mail in May.
According to Froyd, she had not received any ‘negative’ feedback about her work with FanSided prior to receiving an email on Tuesday informing her that her role had been eliminated. Who knows what happens to her from here?
