Patrick Mahomes’ Favorite WR Target Could Be Done After Leaving Practice With Horrible Looking Injury [VIDEO]

Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen suffered a scary injury during Saturday’s training camp practice after a collision on a special teams drill.

According to Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor, Allen collided with cornerback Kaiir Elam while serving as a gunner on a punt rep. He stayed down with his helmet pressed into the turf as trainers rushed onto the field.

A video also shows Allen being helped off the field. He was eventually placed into a cart as he exited practice.

Physical therapist Jacob Moyer has analyzed the footage. 

He noted that Allen avoided putting full weight through his left leg and suggested the mechanism looked more consistent with a possible MCL sprain or knee hyperextension than a more significant ligament injury. He stressed that his comments were only an early opinion based on the available video, not a diagnosis.

The Chiefs have not yet announced the severity of Allen’s injury.

The timing is particularly unfortunate for the rookie receiver, who had been one of the early surprises of training camp. The fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati earned praise from coaches and teammates after making several impressive catches. He’s also said to have built chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with some suggesting he’s been the 2-time MVP’s favorite target so far.

Allen, 23, entered the NFL as the 176th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after finishing his college career at Cincinnati.
