Police Make Final Decision On Criminal Charges After The Tragic Drowning Death Of Bills Superstar Ed Oliver’s 2-Year-Old Son

Ed Oliver and his family will never be the same after losing a child.

The Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle’s 2-year-old son tragically passed away in an accidental drowning. The incident occurred in June at Oliver’s home outside Houston, Texas.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, first responders received an emergency call on June 28. It was regarding a child found unresponsive in a swimming pool. The toddler, also named Ed, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Oliver, his family, and the Buffalo Bills organization deliberately kept the tragedy private for nearly two months to allow the family space to grieve.

Texas law enforcement investigators officially closed the file on the tragic passing of the Buffalo Bills standout. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office formally ruled the drowning death of Ed Oliver’s young son as accidental. Furthermore, homicide detectives confirmed that the department will absolutely file no criminal charges against any individual.

Oliver even reported to training camp on time and participated in early preseason activities.

Oliver is Hoping To Play In The Memory of His Son

The 2025 NFL season was essentially a “lost year” for Ed Oliver due to multiple severe injuries.

Despite an incredible, All-Pro pace to start the year, Oliver was limited to playing in just 3 regular-season games before being sidelined for months. In late October 2025, Oliver suffered a torn biceps tendon in his left arm. He was placed on injured reserve, missing the remainder of the regular season.

While rehabbing his arm, Oliver suffered a setback in his knee. He underwent minimally invasive surgery to repair his meniscus. Ed Oliver worked his way back onto the field and was officially activated from IR. He rejoined the Buffalo Bills for their divisional round playoff matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Now, he has an even tougher year ahead of him as he tries to navigate through grief and heartbreak.
