TreVeyon Henderson made his way back onto the practice field Monday after missing recent time. But the return didn’t last the full session.

Patriots reporter Mark Daniels reported that Henderson left practice early. He appeared to twist his left ankle after slipping on the grass. He wasn’t alone in that regard, either.

“Lots of players fell on the grass today,” Daniels noted, suggesting field conditions may have played a role in several stumbles.

Still, Henderson’s early exit adds a wrinkle to what had otherwise been a notable return to practice.

Henderson Continues Building On A Strong Rookie Foundation

Henderson enters his second season looking to build on a breakout rookie year. He finished with 911 rushing yards, nine touchdowns, and a trip to Super Bowl LX.

He struggled early in his rookie campaign, though. Then an injury to Rhamondre Stevenson opened the door to a larger role, and that stretch turned him into one of the league’s most surprising rookie standouts by season’s end.

This camp has brought its own challenges, too. Henderson has continued working through pass-blocking issues that lingered from his rookie season. Coaches have flagged that area as key to expanding his role in New England’s offense.

Off the field, he’s also stayed a visible presence. He previously drew a public response from head coach Mike Vrabel over a social media post tied to his faith earlier this year. Vrabel addressed the moment directly with reporters while affirming his support for Henderson.

Stevenson Remains The Clear Starter Heading Into The Season

Rhamondre Stevenson has held onto his RB1 role throughout the offseason. That leaves Henderson positioned as a high-upside complementary piece behind him.

Both backs sat out New England’s preseason opener against the Colts, along with fellow running back Terrell Jennings. Instead, the team leaned on depth options like newly signed Hassan Haskins for early preseason work.

For now, the severity of Henderson’s ankle injury remains unclear. The Patriots haven’t issued a formal update on his status. New England continues its preseason slate this week, and more clarity on Henderson’s timeline should come as the team approaches its regular season opener.
