Rams Star Player Facing Serious Punishment From NFL For His Actions On The Field vs. 49ers

The Los Angeles Rams were extremely sloppy against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne. One particular play by a Rams DT may result in a hefty fine from the NFL. And that play involved Brock Purdy.

Yes, the team from LA must have been jet-lagged or tired during the game, but the unnecessary roughness still isn’t an excuse for the hit.

The play occurred in the second quarter on second-and-3. Purdy’s pass to Deebo Samuel was incomplete. However, due to the play of Rams DT Tyler Davis, the 49ers received a new set of downs. 

NFL May Fine Tyler Davis For Brock Purdy Hit

Two penalties may await Davis after colliding with Brock Purdy. He was first flagged down due to roughing the passer.

According to the NFL’s guidelines, that kind of action can result in a fine of up to $17,911 for the first offense. The amount may also balloon to $23,882. It is important to note that it’s Davis’ first this season, so the league may or may not act on it.

However, the broadcast gave another bad angle for the hit. It was visible that Davis may have had a helmet-to-helmet collision with Purdy, too. 

The fine for that isn’t cheap either. First-time offenders can get up to $23,882. Secondary offenses could go up as high as $47,762. By adding his two penalties, Davis could be fined nearly 42K, should the NFL find grounds for it.

Brock Purdy Played Well Against The Rams

The well-rested 49ers surely took advantage of the Rams’ miscues in Australia. While the team from LA is missing some of its stars, the Niners’ win should be celebrated.

Brock Purdy played well for the team in their season opener. He had completed 25 of 34 passes for 205 yards. Moreover, he had three touchdowns and one interception. 

Plus, he had five carries for 29 yards for a QB rating of 105.6. That’s one great performance for the Niners’ superstar QB.
