Ryan Clark stepped into the growing dispute between Jayden Daniels and LSU. The former LSU safety and media voice addressed the cease-and-desist letter. Daniels’ camp sent it after the school gave his No. 5 jersey to cornerback DJ Pickett.

Clark made clear the issue centers on respect and process. He stressed that Daniels never demanded the number get retired.

Clark pushed back hard against efforts to pit Daniels against Joe Burrow.

“For those attempting to make this about Jayden and Joe Burrow, that narrative is simply not accurate,” he posted.

On The Pivot podcast, he expanded on the point. Clark noted that what Daniels did in Death Valley also deserves lasting recognition. He highlighted the Heisman Trophy and the strong records Daniels delivered.

“The smear campaign against Jayden Daniels bothers me. Whatever your opinion on the NIL cease-and-desist, nothing changes the way Jayden has represented himself, his family, and LSU—with class and integrity. What bothers me even more is seeing former players and fans try to pit Jayden against Joe Burrow, as if one diminishes the other. Joe is the greatest Tiger to ever live. But what Jayden meant did in Death Valley deserves to be immortalized in Tiger lore, too,” he shared on X.

Clark said he has heard from people on both sides. He loves the young quarterback and still loves his school. His hope remains a respectful resolution that honors everyone involved.

The cease-and-desist focuses on NIL rights after the 180-day window expired. Daniels expressed gratitude for his LSU time in a public statement. He asked that the matter get handled privately while he focuses on Commanders football.

Clark’s comments aim to add clarity before rumors spread further. He rejects any framing that turns the dispute into a personal slight against current player DJ Pickett. To him, the main issue lies in the process that led to the number change.

This latest chapter adds tension ahead of LSU’s new season under Lane Kiffin. Daniels continues preparing with the Commanders after an injury-limited 2025 year. Clark keeps using his platform to defend the quarterback’s character and accomplishments.
