San Francisco 49ers Make Major Christian McCaffrey Announcement After Final Preseason Game

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their preseason Thursday night with an 18-12 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. But the team had even bigger news waiting for Christian McCaffrey the very next morning.
McCaffrey sat out all of San Francisco’s preseason action. Heading into his 10th NFL season, the star running back was dealing with general muscle tightness, so the 49ers played it safe and kept him on the sidelines to make sure he was ready for the regular season.
Then came some good news for McCaffrey.
McCaffrey Earns No. 6 Spot In NFL Top 100
The NFL and 49ers announced Friday that players ranked McCaffrey No. 6 on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026. NFL players vote on the list, which mainly reflects what players did during the previous season.
The 49ers celebrated the honor with a simple message on social media.

McCaffrey gave players plenty of reasons to rank him so highly. He played all 17 games in 2025 and delivered one of the strongest seasons of his career.
He carried the ball 311 times for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 102 passes for 924 yards and seven touchdowns.
That gave McCaffrey 2,126 total scrimmage yards. Only Bijan Robinson finished with more in the NFL.
McCaffrey also picked up major individual honors after the season. He earned Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro selections. He also won the 2025 AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
The 49ers have relied heavily on McCaffrey since they acquired him from the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 season. Carolina originally selected him No. 8 overall out of Stanford in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Across 112 career games, McCaffrey has rushed 1,658 times for 7,589 yards and 62 touchdowns. He has also caught 626 passes for 5,390 yards and 36 touchdowns.
Now, San Francisco turns its attention to the regular season. The 49ers have kept much of their talent while adding pieces to a roster that hopes to make another Super Bowl run.
They will begin that journey Sept. 10 in Australia against the Los Angeles Rams in a primetime matchup.
