Sean McVay Provides Mixed Update About Aaron Donald’s Return That Will Have Rams Fans Panicking

Preseason is drawing to a close, and Aaron Donald is still nowhere in sight.

The former three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year winner has yet to decide whether he will continue with his retirement or he’ll push through with his tease to return on the field. 

He’s been spotted working out in the summer. The news immediately speculated that Donald is serious about his possible comeback. What added more fuel to the rumors was that he was spotted training at the Rams’ facility, not at a random gym.

At that time, when asked for an update, McVay said, “If he’s interested, there is an opportunity.”

As the new season is closely approaching, it feels like the chances of Aaron Donald suiting up again for the Los Angeles Rams are getting slimmer.

When Sean McVay was asked for an update, he gave reporters a blunt answer.

“I think all of those things are up in the air. And I wish I had a little bit better ability to give you some clarity,” he admitted.

“It’s really one of those deals that what we’re doing, we’re focusing on this football team. Aaron knows that, hey, if he wants to be able to do that, that’s something that we absolutely want to entertain and be able to figure out, and that’s really kind of all there is to it right now,” McVay added.

This could be a matter of whether he would or would not. 

Could Donald Return In The Middle Of The Season

Aaron Donald has been retired for a couple of years now. It’s hard to make that leap back to the field. If he were serious about a comeback, maybe he could’ve tested his body during preseason. 

If you ask Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Donald had his chances to suit up in the preseason but did not. However, don’t count out a comeback sometime in the Rams’ campaign this season.

“It’s looking more and more clear: Aaron Donald’s not going to be playing in Week 1. The question is, will he be back at some point? Is he going to play this year? Is he ever going to make a decision that he’s going to share with us?” Florio asked.

It’s all a guess at this point. Even McVay is unsure what else to say.
