Mac Jones had one of the best seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. After Sam Darnold, he became another quarterback who elevated his level under Kyle Shanahan. The five-year veteran played 11 games, going 201 of 289 for 2,151 yards and 13 touchdowns with six interceptions.

Jones’ performance even sparked a debate on whether he should start over Brock Purdy. In the end, he couldn’t keep up with Purdy, but remained a valuable player for the Niners. The 2026 offseason could bring changes for Jones, who is still under contract with San Francisco.

Minnesota Vikings reporter Jason Harmon wrote on Thursday that Mac Jones is on the NFC North team’s radar. He noted that JJ McCarthy’s injury history concerns the Vikings’ brass, but they still have faith. Indianapolis Colts’ Anthony Richardson is another option for Minnesota.

McCarthy was mentioned in a blockbuster trade idea that would send two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Joe Burrow to the Vikings at the end of December.

Trade rumors involving Mac Jones have surged in recent days. Vic Tafur of The Athletic drew up a path for Jones to join a different team to get draft capital to San Francisco, which would open the door for star defensive end Maxx Crosby.

The 49ers’ defense was disappointing in 2025, as they couldn’t put pressure on quarterbacks. Bringing in Crosby would elevate their level. A team like the Vikings could be the best option to help both Jones and the 49ers.
