Stefon Diggs has a new team, but an old joke is still following him around.

The veteran receiver signed with the Washington Commanders this offseason, making it his fifth NFL team, and during training camp, offensive lineman Sam Cosmi gave him a hilarious, throwback welcome while talking to reporters.

When asked about Diggs, Cosmi cracked a smile and dropped a line that instantly went viral.

“I wouldn’t let him date my sister,” Cosmi said. “I don’t know where that came from, [the Vikings’] locker room. So we’ll see if that’s the truth.”

Cosmi made it clear he was joking. He moved the conversation back to football and praised Diggs for his on-field work. The offensive lineman pointed to Diggs’ recovery from a torn ACL and called him a “heck of a ballplayer.”

Still, the playful jab has a hilarious connection to Diggs’ past.

An Old Vikings Joke Follows Diggs To Washington

Cosmi’s remark referenced a viral video from Diggs’ time with the Minnesota Vikings nearly a decade ago. In that locker room, several Vikings players named Diggs as the teammate they would least want dating their sister.

Diggs became the clear winner of that unofficial vote. At the time, he pushed back on the reputation with a laugh.

“I’m a great guy,” Diggs said. “They just don’t know me well enough, that’s what it is.”

Now in Washington, Diggs is looking to focus and help push the Commanders to the next level. He comes in off a solid 2025 season with the New England Patriots, where he led the team with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and built great chemistry with quarterback Drake Maye.

Of course, his time in New England came with plenty of off-the-field drama, too. Diggs was recently relieved from felony strangulation and assault charges stemming from a dispute with his former private chef, and his on-and-off relationship with rapper Cardi B also got popular enough.

Last year, Diggs brushed off the negativity during an interview with Dianna Russini.

“I obviously take it with a grain of salt,” Diggs said. “The many teams that I have been on, the players on your team and the coaches will tell you that I’m a professional, I work hard.”

Diggs also defended his approach on the field.

“If they call me diva because I wanted the ball, I’m literally willing to take that,” he said.

Now healthy and back in his hometown area, Diggs sees a new opportunity with the Commanders. His teammates may still joke about his past, but Washington expects him to make a difference.
