Tua Tagovailoa’s Sunday night ended as quickly as it began, with the veteran quarterback coming on late to replace an injured Michael Penix Jr. but throwing a pick to seal Atlanta’s fate.

The Falcons hosted the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 in a game that stretched into overtime. Penix Jr. took a shot to the ribs late in the fourth quarter. Tagovailoa relieved him for one play in regulation, and cameras also caught the starter’s reaction to Tagovailoa during the finish.

Tagovailoa then stepped back in for the extra period, where he threw the game-ending interception. Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton made the telling catch as Baltimore won 30-23 and improved to 4. Atlanta, meanwhile, fell to 2-3.

Footage has surfaced online showing Tagovailoa on the Falcons sideline after the pic. And he does not behave the way a quarterback typically would after the ending he’d just experienced.

“Tua threw the pick than took everything off and jogged off like the job was done 😭😭😭,” The Hood Therapist wrote.

Dov Kleiman shared the clip, captioned: “You can’t make this up.”

Penix’s Rib Injury Pushed Tagovailoa Into Overtime Duty For Atlanta

Penix tried to stay in the game after his hit. According to AtlantaFalcons.com, he tried to move around, but the pain worsened during Baltimore’s 14-play overtime drive.

Tyler Huntley finished that drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Tagovailoa then took the field, and his interception came two plays into Atlanta’s final possession.

Huntley started for Baltimore because of Lamar Jackson‘s ankle injury. He went 24-of-32 for 201 yards with two touchdown passes and no interceptions.

Penix said he expects a quick return. “Knowing me, I am going to be ready to go next week because I’ve sat out enough in my career,” he said.

Tagovailoa’s path to this game was not smooth. He dealt with an oblique injury that kept him out of Week 1. Tagovailoa and Penix’s sideline photos also circulated during that loss to the Steelers.

Atlanta had further imaging on Penix’s ribs scheduled for Monday and will provide an update once they have one.
