Quarterbacks often make headlines at the NFL Combine because of their arm strength and athletic testing. Fernando Mendoza generated buzz for a different reason.
A viral clip shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter showed the former Indiana quarterback meeting with members of the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2026 NFL Combine.
Fans immediately noticed one detail. As Mendoza worked his way around the room, he greeted coaches and staff members with confidence and respect.
His interaction with minority owner Tom Brady stood out the most. Brady was not in the room physically. Instead, Raiders personnel connected Mendoza with the seven-time Super Bowl champion over FaceTime. Mendoza remained composed during the call.
“What’s up, Mr. Brady? How are you doing?” he said.
The respectful greeting quickly spread across social media. However, Brady corrected the way Mendoza greeted him.
“You can call me Tom,” the retired quarterback said. “Mr. Brady is my dad.”

“Brady is a future HOF QB, a team owner, and damn near 50, there’s no reason in the world you should feel comfortable enough to call him anything other than Mr. until he tells you otherwise. People criticizing don’t know what home training looks like,” one declared.

Front offices want to understand how prospects handle pressure, communicate with coaches, and represent an organization. Mendoza appeared to check every box in that brief exchange.
Tom Brady Interaction Leaves Lasting Impression

Tom Brady understands what NFL teams want from a quarterback better than almost anyone. That reality made the interaction even more notable. Brady built his legendary career on preparation, professionalism and attention to detail.
Those same traits appeared in Fernando Mendoza’s brief exchange with the future Hall of Famer. Las Vegas ended up drafting him with the No.1 pick in April, kickstarting a new era at Allegiant Stadium. One thing is certain. Fernando Mendoza made a memorable first impression.
