Shedeur Sanders enjoyed graduation weekend like most people leaving college this month. However, he hasn’t actually completed his degree.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback didn’t graduate from the University of Colorado before the team drafted him. He continued working on his degree, though, walking out with the graduating class at CU in early May.

The university promoted his graduation as it implied that he had earned a sociology degree.

Sanders posted about the milestone on social media multiple times, even suggesting he might pursue a master’s.

“I got to stack up my real-life chips,” he said in a video. “I’m really thinking about getting my master’s. I don’t know yet. Something I really feel like that would be very effective. I don’t think you have to have your master’s or have to have your degree to be successful, but I’m doing it more for the activity of learning.”

USA Today has since revealed that Sanders hasn’t actually earned that undergraduate degree.

While it’s not unusual for students to walk out with a graduating class before completing classes, as long as they’re on track to finish coursework, Colorado made it appear that Shedeur was finished with school.

They noted the following:

“Shedeur completed the requisite number of credits to participate in the spring commencement ceremony on May 2, which is an opportunity available to all CU students who similarly qualify.”

Colorado confirmed to said publication that Shedeur, who wasn’t listed in the commencement program, hasn’t earned his undergrad degree.

“But the school confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on May 14 that Sanders has not obtained his degree yet,” the outlet relayed on Thursday. “Sanders, son of Colorado coach Deion Sanders, instead participated in the ceremony before his actual graduation.”

Colorado also admitted that Travis Hunter did not graduate last May, although both parties promoted it as such.

The University had a strict policy back in the ‘90s stating that players needed to graduate before their jersey numbers could be retired.

Both Sanders and Hunter had theirs retired despite not having graduated.

CU told USA Today that it used to be “preference of an academic counselor at the time. As for today, “the decision to retire a player’s jersey number is at the discretion of the athletic department administration and current head coach.”

Meanwhile, Deion Sanders seemed unaware that Shedeur was set to walk out and didn’t attend the ceremony.

“He didn’t tell me,” the Buffaloes head coach told Well Off Media after being asked why he was a no-show.

Coach Prime attended his daughter Shelomi’s graduation from Alabama A&M, resulting in jokes from his son.

She must have told him.
