Will Levis has spent the past month looking for a new NFL home. The Tennessee Titans waived the former second-round pick at the end of August as they finalized the 53-man roster. Cam Ward owns the starting job in Nashville and Mitch Trubisky locked down the primary backup role. That left Levis searching for the next opportunity.
The New York Jets have now provided one. According to reports, the former Titans quarterback is signing with the Jets’ practice squad.
Jets add experienced arm to the practice unit
Multiple sources, including insider Jordan Schultz, confirmed the move on Tuesday.
Levis brings 21 career starts and a big arm to a Jets quarterback room led by Geno Smith. Rookie Cade Klubnik currently sits as the primary backup on the active roster. Bailey Zappe has been on the practice squad. The Jets worked Levis out earlier this month alongside another quarterback, signaling interest in depth behind the top two.
Levis completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He went 5-16 as a starter. Shoulder surgery wiped out his entire 2025 campaign. He returned this summer but could not climb the depth chart in Tennessee.
Fresh Start Arrives After Turbulent Titans Chapter
The Titans drafted Levis 33rd overall in 2023 after trading up. Early promise faded amid turnovers, injuries and coaching changes. Both sides appeared ready to move on by cutdown day. Levis has repeatedly said he wanted a clean slate amid embarrassing situations during training camp.
New York can elevate him to the active roster if needed. For now, the practice squad gives Levis time to learn the system and rebuild confidence. The Jets continue shaping their roster around Smith while developing younger pieces. Adding a quarterback with starting experience strengthens their emergency options.
Levis’ next chapter begins in Florham Park. The arm talent that once made him a high draft prospect remains intact. Whether he climbs higher on the depth chart will depend on performance and opportunity in the weeks ahead.
