The New England Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl following an incredible first season under Mike Vrabel. But there is some concern over quarterback Drake Maye.

Maye is nursing an injury to his right shoulder, the one he uses to throw.

He took a hefty hit during the win over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game and admitted it left him worse for wear.

The third-year QB was not seen at the start of practice on Friday. He was also limited on Thursday and would not have practiced had the team held a session on Wednesday.

Vrabel first revealed that Maye had sustained an injury to his throwing shoulder but downplayed the severity.

According to the Boston Herald, backup QB Joshua Dobbs and third-stringer Tommy DeVito were the only ones seen in practice.

Maye, who was accused of lying to his coaches before his last outing, spoke to the media earlier this week. He insisted that he would not miss the Super Bowl.

“I’m just going to try to do whatever I can to get back to 100%,” he said. “I think a lot of people in that locker room would say the same thing. Having a two-week break is nice to rest a little more and get to know the Seahawks as well as I can. From there, I’m looking forward to getting out to practice and trying to transfer that to live game reps.”

Asked whether he believed the injury would affect his ability to throw, he said he expected to be fine.

“No, I don’t think so,” Maye said of his shoulder issue hindering his play. “That’s why you spend time. That’s why you have trainers. I think it’s just been one of those things where it’s a long season, and sometimes things show up. I’m going to do whatever I can to feel 100%. I’m sure I’ll get, if not there, as close as you can, 99%, or do whatever I can to make sure I’m throwing and like I said, do whatever I can to help the team win.”

Meanwhile, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is dealing with an injury, too. Darnold has played two games with an oblique issue.

Both he and Maye will be closely monitored heading into the Super Bowl.
