Bo Nix being interviewed after the Broncos scored 33 fourth-quarter points to comeback against the Giants

Bo Nix had Denver Broncos’ fair-weather fans on his mind as his team mounted a comeback for the ages Sunday against the New York Giants.

The Broncos trailed the Giants 19-0 after three quarters at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colo. A wave of disgruntled fans left the venue early. In all fairness to them, the home team did not give them much reason to cheer over the first 45 minutes of the contest.

The cost for departing early was missing one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. The Broncos scored 33 points in the fourth quarter, the most ever by a team that had been shut out entering the final period. Denver’s 33-32 win had everything: touchdowns galore, several lead changes, a crunch-time interception, and a kicker meltdown for the ages.

Nix was sorry some fans had to miss it all.

“I felt bad for the people that left early,” said Nix to start his postgame interview.

“A complete team effort in the fourth quarter. It was really bad there for a point. The morale was low on the sideline. But guys never quit, took a few plays, and next thing you know, Will Lutz is kicking a game-winner. I can’t believe it. I haven’t really had one like that. That’s a first for me. I love our team.”

Nix had his fingerprints all over the comeback. He threw for 279 yards with two touchdowns and also rushed for 48 yards with two more TDs on the ground.

The second-year quarterback had just 61 passing yards entering the fourth quarter, then put up a full-game stat line in 15 minutes.

Sean Payton used to lose sleep over the Broncos’ gamble to take Nix 12th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. The veteran coach probably slept soundly on Sunday night.
