Cameras caught a powerful statement from Buffalo Bills defensive end Michael Hoecht after he suffered a season-ending injury in Sunday’s 28-21 home win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Michael Hoecht suffered an unfortunate break when he tore his Achilles in the fourth quarter of the highly anticipated showdown between the two AFC powerhouses. Soon after, the Bills received confirmation that he would miss the rest of the season.
A new mic’d up video shows Hoecht’s immediate reaction and words to his trainers after the devastating injury. He signaled to the Buffalo sideline for help and was advised to take a cart into the locker room, but Hoecht wasn’t up for that.
Hoecht was adamant about wanting to support his teammates and watch the end of the game from the sidelines. The 28-year-old challenged the Bills to finish the job, a message received loud and clear:
#Bills DE Michael Hoecht tore his Achilles on Sunday vs. the #Chiefs.
Trainers told him he’d need a cart to get inside.
He told them he wanted to stay on the sideline with the defense and support them the rest of the game.
Pretty awesome.

Sunday’s testy contest saw Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce exchange words with heckling Bills fans and Josh Allen’s terrible flop in the fourth quarter in hopes of drawing a flag. Fortunately for the Chiefs, the refs didn’t buy it.
Buffalo has now won five straight regular season meetings against Kansas City.
Bills Have The Depth To Get By With Michael Hoecht Sidelined

Hoecht spent his first four NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams (2021 to 2024), winning a Super Bowl 56 championship in his rookie year. In March, Hoecht and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi received six-game suspensions for violating the league’s policy on PEDs.
Michael Hoecht made his Bills debut in their 40-9 Week 8 blowout win over the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, Buffalo will have to get by without their Super Bowl champion defensive end for the rest of the year.
The good news is that Buffalo has the pieces on both sides of the ball to survive Hoecht’s absence. Aside from Hoecht, six different Bills have multiple sacks this season, led by Joey Bosa’s four.
The Bills, who are half a game behind the 7-2 New England Patriots for first in the AFC East, visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
