Andy Reid Announces Final Decision On 2026 NFL Season Amid Retirement Rumors

With a tremendously disappointing and sour season winding down, Andy Reid at least provided some sweet news for Kansas City Chiefs fans.
Like star tight end Travis Kelce, retirement rumors have followed Andy Reid for a couple of years now. While folks have to wait until after the season for a decision from Kelce, the 67-year-old Reid wasted no time issuing an update on his future.
Per The Athletic’s Jayna Bardahl, coach Reid gave Chiefs fans an encouraging update on his plans for 2026.
“I think I’m coming back, right?” Andy Reid said. “If they’ll have me back, I’ll come back. You never know in this business. That’s a tough one, but I plan on it, yeah.”
The 6-10 Chiefs have already clinched their first losing season since 2012. They’ll also watch the playoffs from home for the first time since 2014. Of course, things might have been different if Patrick Mahomes didn’t suffer a torn ACL. And if top wideout Rashee Rice hadn’t gotten into legal trouble that led to a six-game suspension.
One bad season, where everything that could go wrong did go wrong, won’t be enough to push Andy Reid into retirement. That’s bad news for 31 other teams.
Andy Reid’s Chiefs Will Be Back In 2026

Having won three straight AFC Championship Games and three of the last six Super Bowls, it made sense for Kansas City to keep its core intact for the 2025 season.
But it’s evident that general manager Brett Veach will have to fix up several glaring flaws in the offseason. The running back room, offensive line and defense especially need some fresh faces.
As long as Mahomes is healthy and as long as Reid is back, the Chiefs will always have a chance. Bet against them at your own risk, but this team is heads-and-shoulders above the rest of the NFL when healthy.
