Jon Gruden hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2021, when he resigned from the Las Vegas Raiders after Week 5. The 62-year-old has been mentioned as a potential head coach candidate for several teams in the last couple of months.

He was named a potential option to replace Brian Daboll on the New York Giants, more so after he praised rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. He could end up going to New York, but with a different team. Evan Roberts predicted during Wednesday’s edition of WFAN’s Evan & Tiki that when Aaron Glenn gets fired, Jon Gruden will replace him on the Jets.

“When Aaron Glenn gets fired, and he will, Jon Gruden will be the next head coach of the New York Jets,” Roberts said.

“It’s obvious because Woody Johnson made that phone call. If Woody Johnson shows you he’s comfortable with getting into business with Gruden, that tells you all you need to know. Let’s save the drama, let’s save the time, the next head coach of the Jets is Jon Gruden.”

Jon Gruden Reportedly Turned Down The Jets

It might take some time for Gruden to change his mind, however. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the Jets contacted Gruden with this idea. He wasn’t interested in the job.

Aaron Glenn’s first season with Gang Green didn’t go as expected. After a 0-7 start, the season was pretty much over for the AFC East team. The Justin Fields experiment didn’t work out, and they will likely move to a different quarterback in the offseason.

The offseason was off to a rough start for many coaches. Glenn has fired multiple assistant coaches (eight at the time of writing), which many think puts him in a complex position.
