Bad Bunny’s polarizing halftime show finally took place on Sunday, during the Seattle Seahawks’ 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60. Levi’s Stadium hosted the Puerto Rican artist with a plethora of stars, including fellow musicians such as Karol G and Young Miko, as well as actors such as Pedro Pascal and Jessica Alba.

The 31-year-old artist made fans dance, but he also touched on serious topics. Countryman Ricky Martin sang “LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii,” which translates into “what happened to Hawaiʻi,” a song that pleads Puerto Rico not to end up like the Hawaiian Islands.

He navigated through his discography to make Levi’s Stadium a club and left many memorable moments during his performance. Some even noticed he sent a message to Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

The 12th song of his setlist was “El Apagón” (“the blackout” or “the power outage”), which talks about Puerto Rico’s frequent power cuts. The 2022 song features a line in which Bad Bunny celebrates a former NBA player becoming champion before LeBron James, and right in front of him.

“P f****n’ R, hey
Tierra de Maelo y Tego Calderon
Y de Barea, el que fue campeón (Wuh), primero que LeBron”

The message translates to, “And Barea, the one who became champion before LeBron.”

This referred to JJ Barea, a Dallas Mavericks icon, who helped the Texan team win their first and only NBA championship in 2011. The guard had the task of guarding James at times during that series. He proved crucial to help Dirk Nowitzki and Co. win the Finals in one of the most improbable runs of all time.

Dallas won the series against the Miami Heat, 4-2, with James and Co. collapsing. The future four-time NBA champion averaged James averaged 15.1 points in Games 4, 5, and 6.

Their relationship seems to be fine now, as Bad Bunny says he hung out with James and Leonardo DiCaprio on his song “Monaco.”
