Jerry Jones has trashed his team’s 2025 defense, also throwing former coordinator Matt Eberflus under the bus in a recent rant.

The Dallas Cowboys owner suggested that the NFC East outfit would have at least made it to the playoffs if not for Eberflus’ failures.

Dallas hired the 55-year-old as a DC after the Chicago Bears fired him as their head coach midway through the 2024 season. The Cowboys went on to allow the most points and make the fewest interceptions in franchise history.

They finished the season 7-9, unsurprisingly firing Eberflus in January after just one season.

As surprising as this may sound, he’s already landed a new job

As for Jones, he reckons even a slight improvement on the defensive side of the ball will fire the team back into the playoffs.

“What we’ve done on defense, plus what we have set up for the draft, plus what we have coming back from our veteran defensive players that really didn’t play that much last year, injury issues, things like that, gives us a lot of promise,” he said, via the Cowboys’ official website this week.

Jones went on to rip the team’s defense.

“When you have the challenges we had last year, there’s no place to go but up on the defensive side of the ball,” he claimed. Had we played a lick of defense last year, we would’ve had ourselves, I think, a real playoff run.”

The Cowboys have since replaced Eberflus with Christian Parker, now a first-time coordinator after serving as the Philadelphia Eagles’ passing game coordinator & defensive backs coach over the past two seasons.

Dallas has also traded for pass rusher Rashan Gary, adding cornerback Cobie Durant, safeties Jalen Thompson and P.J. Locke, plus defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia and linebacker Tyrus Wheat.
