The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Rueben Bain Jr. as the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. It goes without saying that they have high hopes for him.

Drafted by head coach Todd Bowles, Bain is expected to start immediately and benefit from playing alongside established defensive linemen on the team. The team certainly loves him.

To show how much they care for him, the team provided him with an incredible gift this week. On their official X account, the team posted that he received a custom-made Bane mask to wear in 2026.

“Bain 🤝 Bane,” they wrote.

The edge rusher from the University of Miami was considered a massive steal at pick 15. Rueben Bain Jr. brings highly coveted physicality and relentless pass-rushing skills to the Buccaneers’ defense.

Shortly after the draft, he signed a four-year rookie contract with the team.

Bain Jr. currently holds the second-best odds (+550) to win the 2026 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. That is how highly many think of him.

He almost had his career derailed. Back in 2024, he was involved in a fatal car accident. Bain was cited for careless driving after a collision that left 22-year-old student Destiny Betts with incapacitating injuries; she died three months later.

According to Oliver Connolly of The Read Optional, a careless driving charge against Bain Jr. was eventually dismissed.

In three seasons at Miami, Bain compiled 121 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 33.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three passes defensed, and an interception. Last season, Bain helped lead the Hurricanes to the national championship game against Indiana.

“Off the film, if you had to bet, he’s going to be a star,” outside linebackers coach Larry Foote said Tuesday.

“The way he plays the game. He’s explosive. Plays with great leverage, and it’s hard to block those types of guys. Back in my Pittsburgh days, I played with a guy, James Harrison, like that, and you couldn’t block him. He had that trait. He had that ability.”

For the 2025 season, Rueben Bain Jr. racked up 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. He was also credited with 83 QB pressures during the season to lead all FBS players.
