The Los Angeles Rams spent the offseason praising Jared Verse’s growth after a breakout rookie year. Then they decided to trade him.

Less than a week ago, Verse was trending for something far removed from sacks and quarterback pressures. A short interview clip sparked a heated online debate that quickly spread across NFL social media circles. Verse has always been a good interviewee, dating back to his college days.

That hasn’t changed since he left Florida State to play for the Rams. Fresh off being the NFL Rookie of the Year in 2024 and making the Pro Bowl in 2024 and 2025, reporters seek him out when an opportunity arises.

Did The Rams Trade Jared Verse Due To His Reaction to a Gay Reporter?

Last week, Jared Verse spoke with someone named Ruba Wilson, and he caught backlash for how he reacted to that person. At one point, the obviously gay reporter called him a “confident daddy,” and Verse had to catch himself as he laughed it off.

Less than a week later, the Rams traded him to the Cleveland Browns. Many fans online thought the interview might be the reason.

“Some NFL fans posted that they believe Jared Verse was TRADED after his reaction to gay reporter Ruba Wilson’s voice, which went viral last week,” a post stated online.

“Jared verse had one interview with a gay man, and the Rams sent him packing, my goodness,” one fan said.

“Jared Verse laughed at a gay dude and got traded first day of pride month,” a second person wrote.

“They saw that interview and got Jared Verse outta there 😭,” a third fan added.

“Jared Verse did that interview and got sent to purgatory,” a fourth fan commented.

The 25-year-old pass rusher won Rookie of the Year honors in his first season, and in Year 2, he made the Pro Bowl after recording 7.5 sacks in 17 games, per ESPN. In addition to Verse, the Rams are reportedly sending three draft picks, including a 2027 first-rounder, to bring Garrett to Los Angeles.
