Less than 24 hours after the Philadelphia Eagles traded him to the New England Patriots, AJ Brown addressed one of the biggest talking points from his time in Philadelphia.

During an interview with Maria Taylor, AJ Brown spoke honestly about his relationship with Jalen Hurts.

For years, fans and media members speculated about tension between the two Eagles stars. Brown said that was never the case. According to him, they simply became less close over time, but there was never any issue between them.

Brown also explained that their personal relationship never affected their performance on the field. He added that he still cares about Hurts and wants to see him do well in his career.

Brown did not avoid the topic when Taylor asked about Hurts. Instead, he gave a direct answer.

“Not as close as we once were,” Brown said.

He explained that the two had not shared the same close friendship they once had for several years. Even so, Brown said they continued to compete together, lead the team, and push each other to improve.

“There’s no bad blood; there’s actually still a lot of love,” Brown said. “I love him. I wanted him to succeed and accomplish all the things that he wanted to accomplish.”

AJ Brown also questioned why so many people focused on their friendship. He said, “I didn’t truly understand why our friendship became the public of the center of everybody’s attention when it came to football, because you know, looking back on it, we haven’t been as close as we were a couple years now, but that didn’t stop anything.”

He added, “We still competed, we still push each other, we still led the team, so it was just kind of strange people just got so fixated on the relationship and wanted to talk about maybe from the history of this place, but you know that wasn’t what this was, you know.”

Rumors about a falling out followed the pair for quite some time. Brown shut those rumors down. He said no specific incident caused the distance between them.

“Yeah, nothing happened,” Brown said. “Nothing happened. People just grow apart.”

He also said there were no issues between their families or spouses. According to Brown, life simply moved forward, and both men accepted that their friendship had changed.

Brown and Hurts first played together in 2022 after Brown arrived in Philadelphia. The partnership produced major success. Brown earned multiple All-Pro selections while Hurts developed into a Pro Bowl quarterback and MVP candidate.

Together, they helped lead the Eagles to two NFC championships and a Super Bowl LIX title.

Now, their paths head in different directions. Hurts remains in Philadelphia alongside DeVonta Smith and a revamped receiving group. Brown begins a new chapter with the Patriots.

Even as they move on, Brown left no doubt about where things stand.
