Are The Chicago Bears Changing Their Name?

The Chicago Bears are officially on the move, with the city of Hammond, Indiana, set to be their new home. 

Teams typically change their names to reflect their home city whenever they move. 

However, in the case of the Bears, it doesn’t appear that will be the case. 

Indiana Governor Mike Braun has assured fans that the name will remain in place, implying that the “Hammond Bears” doesn’t quite have a ring to it.

Braun made an appearance on ‘The Herd’ with Colin Cowherd this week, where he made it clear that the name would stay. 

“No, no,” he said after Cowherd asked, “You’re not changing the name, right?”

“That would be obtuse to think it would be the Hammond Bears. It’s the Chicago Bears,” he added.

Was There Ever Any Chance Of A Chicago Bears Rebrand?

The Bears have been in Chicago for over 100 years, so it doesn’t seem like there was ever a chance of a transition to the Hammond Bears. 

Their deal with Indiana likely hinged on a promise that their name would remain the same regardless of a move. 

Braun’s reassurance will come as consolation to resident fans, but it’s probably not going to do much in terms of them accepting the move.
