Ashton Jeanty’s Ankle Gets Important Update, Leaves Las Vegas Guessing

Ashton Jeanty is not cleared. He is not ruled out. Klint Kubiak used the same line again Friday.
“Still on the mend. Still working to get him back,” he said, before adding the part Raiders fans wanted. “We’re counting on him.”

The Week 1 date is Sept. 13 against the Miami Dolphins. The timeline will give the Raiders another week to watch the ankle. Official injury reports do not start until game week. Until then, the coach’s words are the report.
Jeanty went down Sunday in practice. He dove for a low Kirk Cousins throw. He could not put weight on his right leg. Trainers helped him off. Teammates took a knee and prayed. Practice continued after his exit.
Ashton Jeanty Avoided the Season-Killer Tag

Adam Schefter said the sprain is not long-term. Ian Rapoport said the ankle looks “more low than high.” That is the good version of a bad step. High-ankle sprains steal weeks. A low sprain can heal inside a game week.
The Raiders still will not promise snaps. Rapoport said the team hopes he plays. He also said they are far from certain. Kubiak will not detail the injury. He only repeats the mend line.
Jeanty is 22 and in Year 2. Las Vegas took him sixth overall in 2025. He ran 266 times for 975 yards last season. Five rushing scores. Five more through the air. He is the offense’s volume back. The room behind him is thin.
Rookie Mike Washington has taken first-team reps. He had nine preseason carries for 56 yards. Kubiak said the kid knows the staff is counting on him too. That is Plan B talk. Plan A is still Jeanty.
Ashton Jeanty Leaves Fantasy and Vegas in Limbo

The practice exit looked worse than the follow-up. No weight on the leg. A silent huddle. Then the “not long-term” leaks. Friday’s quote sits between those two poles. Counting on him is not the same as dressing him.
Las Vegas already has a quarterback cloud. Kubiak has not named a Week 1 starter. An injured lead back stacks the same week. The Dolphins game will tell the truth. Until then, the latest update is hope plus caution.
Jeanty has practiced through the rest of camp when healthy. This is the first real scare. The staff has seven-plus days to test cuts, cuts, and change of direction. If the low sprain holds, he lines up. If swelling stays, Washington opens the year.
Kubiak gave the building a target. He did not give a guarantee. Ashton Jeanty remains the lead back on paper. The Raiders say they are counting on him. Miami will find out if that count was real.
