Mike Vrabel did not want that question. A reporter asked him Wednesday to talk about Romeo Doubs’ personality, and the Patriots coach made the room feel it. The clip spread fast because the look on his face said more than the answer. He was not there to workshop a receiver’s vibe after one ugly night in Seattle.
“You guys can get to know Romeo the best that you want,” Vrabel said. “I’m not going to have conversations about our players when they’re in the locker room. You want to get to know Romeo, you can go in there and introduce yourself to him.”

New England is 0-1 after a 13-10 loss to the Seahawks. Doubs finished with zero catches on three targets and dropped a ball that would have been a long gain. After the game, he owned it.
“I just wasn’t locked in, that’s all,” he said. “The video speaks for itself.”
That seven-word answer already lit up Patriots Twitter. Asking about his personality four days later felt like a second swing at the same guy.
Vrabel had already drawn a line on Monday.
“He dropped a pass,” the coach said. “Everybody drops a pass, everybody misses a tackle. You talk to him the same way you always talk to him. Figure out a way to make a play to help us win.”
Wednesday’s personality question did not change that message. It just made him look tired of the extra layer.

Doubs signed a four-year, $68 million deal in March after four seasons in Green Bay. The Patriots needed a complement for A.J. Brown and a red-zone option for Drake Maye. Then Brown went down in the opener, and the receiver room got thin overnight. Doubs is now the player who has to produce Sunday against Pittsburgh.
The coach has a history of short answers when the topic is not football. He shut down Russini talk the same way earlier this month.
