10 NFL Teams Are Reportedly Eyeing Their Next Franchise Quarterback In 2027

The 2026 NFL season has just entered Week 2, but it’s already clear that a handful of teams need to upgrade their quarterback situation.
While it’s hard to find another starting signal-caller when the season is already underway, there are other avenues to explore. For example, the 2027 Draft class is loaded with blue-chip prospects at the quarterback position.
Some of those prospects are Texas star Arch Manning and Ohio State’s Julian Sayin. Plus, there’s Oregon star Dante Moore, who was predicted to be a top-10 pick in April before going back to school.
10 NFL Teams In Dire Need Of A Quarterback In 2027
It doesn’t take a minute of research to conclude that a quarterback is the most important position in the NFL. Signal-callers routinely win the league’s MVP award almost yearly, except for rare instances.
While most teams are set at that position in their 2026 campaigns, a few are already looking ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel named the 10 most obvious NFL teams that might actively seek a quarterback next year.
They are, in no particular order, the Browns, Cardinals, Colts, Dolphins, Falcons, Jets, Saints, Seahawks, Steelers, and Vikings.
Why These 10 Teams Need A New Quarterback
While it’s fairly obvious why Thamel listed the 10 teams, let’s try to understand their QB situations right now.
The Browns being listed here is a no-brainer. They are a mess at that position. The Cardinals have Jacoby Brissett. A quality QB, but not enough to lead this franchise to a Super Bowl.
While the Colts have Daniel Jones, his durability, especially after his brutal injury last season, has been questioned. Malik Willis is the starting quarterback for the Dolphins. Good for their rebuilding phase, but not a long-term solution.
The Falcons have two injury-prone QBs. Geno Smith at 35 couldn’t lift the Jets out of mediocrity. While Tyler Shough is a quality signal-caller, he’s not going to reach Drew Brees’ level.
Aaron Rodgers will retire at the conclusion of the 2026 season. The Steelers need to go younger for his replacement. Vikings QB situation is a mess, and J.J. McCarthy has been shoved further in the depth chart.
The most intriguing here are the Seattle Hawks. They do have Sam Darnold, who helped the team to a Super Bowl last season. But they do need a backup QB that could possibly start someday.
