The NFL has made a massive decision regarding Josh Jacobs ahead of Week 6.

The Green Bay Packers running back has spent weeks waiting for clarity about his NFL future. And he should be pretty happy with the new development, given that he now knows when he can return to the field.

Jacobs has yet to play this season as he deals with the fallout from a legal case. His absence has forced the Packers to manage their backfield without one of their most important offensive players.

Now, the NFL has announced a significant change to Jacobs’ status, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.

The league plans to remove Jacobs from the Commissioner Exempt List on October 19. That move will make him eligible to play in Green Bay’s Week 7 game on October 25 after a six-game absence.

Jacobs’ potential return does not mean the league has finished reviewing his case.

The league has confirmed that its investigation under the Personal Conduct Policy remains ongoing and will continue regardless of the roster decision.

The NFL originally placed Jacobs on the exempt list on August 30, following misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property.

Jacobs pleaded no contest to those charges in September and received a $1,000 fine for the battery charge. The criminal damage charge may be dismissed after a year if he satisfies the required conditions, per his plea agreement.

The Associated Press reported this week that Jacobs had filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the public release of evidence connected to the incident.

The NFL’s latest move addresses Jacobs’ immediate eligibility, with the overall outcome still unclear.

The Packers, meanwhile, would welcome the potential boost to their offense. However, Jacobs’ availability remains subject to further league action.
