Troy Aikman’s time at ESPN could be winding down. And it’s thought that the network even has a potential successor in mind.

The Hall of Fame quarterback is in the final year of his five-year, $90 million contract. Meanwhile, ESPN recently secured longtime broadcast partner Joe Buck with a new deal, causing some friction between the longtime broadcast partners.

Now, sports media insider John Ourand believes Greg Olsen could take Aikman’s place on Monday Night Football. According to Pro Football Talk, Ourand’s sources expect Olsen to land the role next season.

“My best sources are predicting that Greg Olsen will wind up in ESPN’s Monday Night Football booth next season,” Ourand wrote in his latest newsletter for The Varsity.

Aikman recently acknowledged his uncertain future, reiterating that he would become a free agent after the season.

Greg Olsen Could Finally Reclaim A Top NFL Broadcast Role

Olsen was unfortunate to lose his place in the booth to Tom Brady after establishing himself as one of the most respected analysts in football

The former tight end has since continued working alongside play-by-play announcer Joe Davis. His deal with FOX also expires after this season, creating an opportunity to pursue a top booth position elsewhere.

Still, Olsen’s move to ESPN remains speculation. Fox has reportedly discussed a potential renewal, while Aikman has not formally announced his departure.

Aikman and Buck have worked together for 25 years. If ESPN makes the change, the network would end one of football broadcasting’s longest-running partnerships.
