On Saturday, the team announced that former general manager John Beake passed away at 87. They issued a statement on the loss of a pivotal figure in the franchise’s history.

“The Broncos are saddened by the passing of longtime executive John Beake, who made an enduring impact on our organization during more than two decades with the team,” the organization said in a statement.

“John helped guide the Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances, including back-to-back World Championships, and was a respected leader throughout one of the most successful eras in franchise history. Following his time in Denver, he remained an influential figure through his work with the NFL and on the Broncos Ring of Fame Committee. Our deepest condolences are with his wife, Marcia, his sons, Chip and Chris, and the entire Beake family.”

Beake helped the organization play in five Super Bowls, winning two. He worked with the team from 1979 to 2000, serving as general manager from 1985 to 2000. He worked with NFL Europe after his time with the Broncos.
