Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had a bit of a go with reporters over Jalen Hurts’ injury situation on Monday.

Sirianni and the rest of the Eagles organization are under scrutiny following shocking revelations regarding Hurts’ last outing. But he stood by the team’s medical department, insisting he has complete trust.

Sirianni’s press conference included a back-and-forth with reporter Jeff McLane about the decisions surrounding Hurts. The exchange came after the quarterback’s diagnosis went from a superficial calf clot to deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.

Hurts played against Jacksonville on October 11 after doctors initially determined he could safely participate. He is now expected to miss the remainder of the season while taking blood thinners.

Sirianni would have expected the media to care about nothing else when he faced them on Monday.

He made it clear on several occasions that he made decisions based on information received from his medical team.

“I’m not a medical expert,” Sirianni said. “I lean on our guys in all those situations. I’m a football coach. I lean on our medical folks in every situation. I have full trust and full faith in them. It’s not just me who has major care for our players, it’s them as well. We are all there and I’m glad to be part of an organization that cares about our guys the way ours do.”

Sirianni also addressed questions about Hurts flying back to Philadelphia after the initial diagnosis.

“We get medical information from our guys. We always put our players health first and foremost in every situation,” he explained.

The head coach pointed out that the medical team was the same one that ensured the Eagles had 21 of 22 starters available for the Super Bowl in 2024.

Of course, they’re having a much harder time keeping players on the field this season, with the squad now depleted.
