My Chemical Romance is facing legal trouble from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders after putting their dancers in outfits that look almost identical to the squad’s famous blue-and-white uniforms. Even with lawyers getting involved, the rock band reportedly brought the controversial looks right back out for another show.

The whole mess started during the band’s run of shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, which kicked off on October 21 to mark 20 years of their hit album The Black Parade. But it was what the dancers were wearing and doing that became an issue.

Besides wearing gear that looked just like the Cowboys cheer outfits, the dancers carried fake rifles and acted out a wild shootout. Some even pretended to get hit before crawling off the stage. That dramatic routine didn’t sit well with the cheerleaders’ parent company, which moved to take legal action.

On October 23, Pro Silver Star Ltd., which owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand, filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against My Chemical Romance in Dallas County, Texas.

According to reports, the company claims the costumes looked so similar to the official uniforms that some fans believed the performers actually belonged to the cheerleading squad.

Pro Silver Star also argues that the performance could hurt the squad’s reputation. The company says it contacted the band before filing the motion and asked it to stop using the costumes. However, My Chemical Romance did not agree to the request.

The company made its position clear in the court filing.

“Silver Star does not ask Defendants to change their setlist, narrative, politics, choreography, or even their decision to put gun-toting performers on stage,” the filing states. “Silver Star asks only that those performers not wear the DCC Uniform while doing it.”

Pro Silver Star also seeks unspecified monetary damages. The band has not publicly commented on the dispute.

Despite the legal action, My Chemical Romance reportedly used the same costumes again during its October 23 show. Videos shared on social media showed the dancers wearing the disputed outfits, according to the New York Post.

The band has two more Hollywood Bowl performances scheduled for October 30 and 31. It remains unclear whether the dancers will wear the costumes again.

For now, Pro Silver Star awaits a judge’s decision on whether the court will step in and restrict the band’s use of the outfits.
