The Indianapolis Colts have a massive call to make on Jonathan Taylor before Sunday’s showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With trade chatter heating up fast, the team has to figure out whether to let their star running back play or keep him out to protect his trade value.

The Colts have already had a wild week of departures, sending big stars like DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson to the NFC West. Taylor might be next in line to pack his bags as Indy piles up draft picks, and wide receiver Josh Downs is popping up in trade talks now, too.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the latest news on Taylor Saturday morning, right as the team was gearing up to fly down to Jacksonville. Now, everyone is just waiting to see if he actually suits up on Sunday.

The Colts could face a difficult choice if trade discussions continue to progress. Playing Taylor carries some risk, especially if he suffers an injury that affects his trade value. Indianapolis could lose a chance to secure a valuable return for one of its best players.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler discussed the situation on Saturday morning. He also shared what he heard from teams around the league about Taylor’s potential trade value.

“Teams I’ve talked to believe he’s worth a second-round pick and more. If you can get a package of, say, a second and a third-rounder, let’s say, this is a team that’s trying to replenish their draft capital. It could come to a head,” Fowler said.

Fowler also raised questions about whether Taylor would play against Jacksonville. He noted that the coaches expected the running back to play in Sunday’s game when he checked with them on Friday night.

“The question now becomes: does he play on Sunday? Because he’s been part of the game plan. When I checked last night [Friday] with coaches there, they were expecting Taylor to play, but sometimes, does he?” Fowler added.

The Colts could follow a similar approach to the Arizona Cardinals, who recently held Marvin Harrison Jr. out of action while a potential trade to the Houston Texans took shape.

However, Indianapolis has yet to reach an agreement involving Taylor. Several teams are reportedly interested in acquiring him, and competition among potential buyers could move discussions forward.

The Colts also face a timing issue. They need to make a decision before heading to Jacksonville. If Taylor plays, the team risks an injury. If they hold him out, they could avoid that risk while continuing trade discussions.

For now, Taylor’s status remains the biggest question surrounding Indianapolis ahead of Sunday’s game.
