Erin Andrews has covered NFL sidelines for years, but picking out what to wear on game day isn’t just about looking good. The Fox Sports reporter has to tackle freezing weather, avoid wearing team colors, and think twice about how players might read into her look.

On a recent episode of her Calm Down with Erin and Charissa podcast, Andrews shared a hilarious story about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott calling her out after a game. She laughed about how a festive Christmas outfit got his attention and triggered an unexpected moment on the field.

Andrews explained that she usually follows one simple golden rule, never wear team colors so nobody thinks she’s playing favorites. But one Christmas Eve broadcast backfired, leaving her in a totally awkward spot with Prescott.

Andrews recalled wearing a green suit while covering a Cowboys game on Christmas Eve. Dallas came away with a win, but Prescott apparently had something to say about her choice of clothing.

“Oh, and I’ve had players call me out, like literally call me out,” Andrews said on the podcast.

She then explained how Prescott questioned her outfit.

“I was working a Dallas Cowboys Christmas Eve game years ago, and I had a fabulous, like, Christmas green suit, and the Cowboys won. And Dak was like, ‘What are we doing?’ And I was like, ‘I swear to God, this is all about Christmas.’ Like, he goes, ‘You couldn’t wear red?’ And I was like, ‘I wore red for Thanksgiving.’ Like, come on.”

The Cowboys did play on Christmas Eve in 2022. They beat the Philadelphia Eagles 40-34 in overtime. Andrews did not identify the game on the podcast, but the green outfit might have caught Prescott’s attention, as the Eagles also use green as one of their main colors.

Andrews has faced outfit discussions on other occasions, too. In January, she wore a black-and-white fur coat while covering the 49ers-Eagles wild-card game in Philadelphia. Fans compared the look to Cruella de Vil from Disney’s 101 Dalmatians.

Andrews enjoyed the attention and defended her decision to try something different. She also pointed out the different expectations for men and women on television.

“Guys can walk into these stadiums wearing whatever the hell they want. Even guys on television can wear whatever they want. But God forbid. It’s such a fun moment, though, if you think about it.”

Her outfits have become part of her sideline presence. Still, Andrews knows that game-day fashion comes with its own challenges.
