Troy Aikman Could Get The Boot From ESPN’s Super Bowl 61 Broadcast Booth In Shocking Turn Of Events

Troy Aikman is no longer considered to be a shoo-in to call ESPN’s first Super Bowl.
Aikman currently calls Monday Night Football with Joe Buck, but their longstanding partnership could soon be over following reports of a pregame fight.
The former quarterback’s contract is up in March. But according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, that no longer guarantees him a Super Bowl 61 appearance.
“I’ll put that at 95% he does it, 5% he doesn’t,” Marchand said on The Varsity Podcast.
He then described the current state of affairs between the two partners. “Look, they’re professional, but it’s ugly,” he added.
What Reportedly Happened In The Booth Before The Bills-Rams Game

The Athletic reported on October 30, citing unnamed sources, that Aikman and Buck argued in the SoFi Stadium booth before the Bills-Rams game earlier in the month.
Aikman reportedly had a tense talk with ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro beforehand.
The Athletic also reported in September that Buck signed an extension Aikman did not know about. Buck, however, reportedly told Aikman he was not the reason Aikman did not have a new contract.
Aikman has addressed his own status.
“I’ll broadcast through this season and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens,” he said on 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas, per Newsweek.
Aikman later put the odds of returning to television next season at 50-50. A separate report added more details from the backstage drama.
ESPN and ABC will air Super Bowl 61 on Sunday, February 14, from SoFi Stadium. Marchand’s 5% leaves a small opening, and Aikman’s contract runs out a month later.
Of course, there’s plenty of time to mend fences. We’ll just have to wait and see.
